Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (Further Education and Skills) – Launched on 31^st August 2025

Are you aspiring to get into the field of further education and skills teaching? The previous Level 5 Diplomas in Education and Training (DET) and DTLLS have been superseded by this most recent award. If you are looking to teach students aged 14 and above, you can get the credentials you need to teach at a further education organisation, college, a business, or for a training provider by enrolling in this course. The Department for Education (DfE) has published an update to the framework for the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (Further Education and Skills), effective 31 March 2025. This update replaces elements of the Education and Training Framework.

Creating learning settings that promote your students' development is a key skill for becoming an effective teacher. To help you develop your professional practice, this course integrates current pedagogical theories and practices with hands-on digital skills. As you progress through the course, you'll learn the basics of teaching as well as more advanced concepts like inclusive pedagogy, assessment, and curriculum design.

Our Diploma course combines online learning with practical application. You will need to be working within a recognised education organisation, where learners are 14 years old and above. This will allow you to apply your learning within your role and generate the required evidence to achieve your qualification.

Teaching Practice – face-to-face

If you are not currently working in education, you would need to find a placement at an educational organisation, perhaps offer to teach on a voluntary basis, where they will allow you to teach and complete your qualification whilst on your placement. You can use two different placements if you want to. Gaining practical experience through teaching placements or your current teaching role is a crucial component of this Diploma, allowing you to apply your knowledge and skills in everyday practice.

Live Online Teaching Practice

If your organisation does not offer online live delivery, we will provide you with a placement that allows you to teach the 20 required online hours.

Progression

Achieving the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching will mean you are eligible to apply for the QTLS programme. If you decide to go down the QTLS route on completion, we will support you throughout the process!
