Where will this course lead?
If you are working as a tutor or coach, this course will qualify you to assess the qualifications within your scope, whether that be academic or vocational subjects. Most awarding bodies now require all those assessing their qualifications to be qualified assessors.
What will I study?
You will study the principles and practices of assessment, such as the functions of assessment, regulations and requirements, planning and carrying out of assessments and how to make assessment decisions that meet the requirements of awarding bodies.
You will also study the legislation involved in assessment and how to ensure you are assessing according to current best practice.
How will this course be delivered and what is the duration?
When you enrol, you will have instant access to your course page and content and you will be contacted by your assessor to arrange an optional initial online Teams meeting to introduce you to the course, its structure and how to use the learning platform. During this meeting you will have the opportunity to ask any questions about the course.
Included are further optional monthly online meetings with your assessor that you can book at a mutually convenient time as and when you need them.
You will have a full year to complete the course, so you can work at your own pace. The content is delivered via videos in a structured manner with all questions and interactive learning activities included. These lessons cover all content of the knowledge-based unit, and the requirements of the vocational skills unit, where you will carry out assessments in an educational setting.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment of the knowledge-based unit is through written answers to questions.
For the performance-based units, you will be need to provide evidence of being observed carrying out assessments with learners in an educational setting. Your observer needs to be a qualified assessor and IQA or manager.
You will also need to provide additional evidence from your assessment practice, including records of assessment, CPD records, witness statements, etc. You will also participate in a professional discussion with your assessor towards the end of the course.
Evidence must come from real work practice, as simulations are not permitted by the Awarding Body.

What are the entry requirements?
In order to complete this qualification, learners are required to:
Be a minimum of 19 years of age
It is advised that learners already hold a level 2 qualification in your subject
Be able to write in English at an appropriate level
What else do I need to know?
You will need to be working as an assessor, teacher, tutor or learning coach and have access to at least 2 learners. This needs to be in a recognised educational organisation or setting.
What can I do after this course?
After qualifying as an assessor, your employment opportunities will broaden, as you will be able to assess for any qualification you hold. Many organisations will also accept significant experience in a vocational subject area, as long as you are a qualified assessor.
After gaining your Assessment Award, you could progress onto the
Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
You will need to be working as an assessor, teacher, tutor or learning coach and have access to at least 4 learners. This needs to be in a recognised educational organisation or setting.
